In our forum with phpbb2.x we are using a human question before a user can create an account. This has nearly 99,99% reduced spam accounts. I dont know if that will helps here but give it a try.

I'm not sure what decision was reached, or why it was reached, but I want to say a great big Thank You! for restoring guest-read of the forums.

I wonder if it's a definitive decision or just part of an ongoing trial-and-error exercise. I'm sure every single one of us wants guest-read access if it's feasible.

Those of us without access to the forum's inner secrets do occasionally see a hint of the turmoil it goes through in the large number of obviously fake accounts (with gibberish names) which get created and very quickly banned. Since the re-opening we seem to be seeing them again now.

|Yup. I and several others have been deleting posts and banning posters a good number of times a week for rather a long time.

What you tend not to see unless you are a supermod is entire chunks of network also being banned.

I've just noticed that although I can read the forums without logging in I get asked to log in if I click on an attached image. I don't know if it was like this yesterday. Is this intended?

Can I ask why the forum has been put in lockdown again? I can understand the "bad mood" explanation if this were a temporary thing, but with this happening more often, I'm worried it will become permanent.

Do you guys need more help with some sort of moderation (posts, or account creation, or something else?)?

edit: Just saw the post in the Lounge sub-forum, nothing to see here.
