Default Dual boot?

I would like to dual boot between Windows 8 Pro and Ubuntu.

I've tried to work within a Ubuntu Virtualbox guest, but the guest doesn't support all of the machine instructions I want (namely AVX2).

Has anyone successfully done this? I've read some things that make it seem less straightforward with Win 8.

The ubuntu forums are probably a good place to ask. No one here is switching to windows 8.

Make sure you are using hardware virtualization. This will have to be enabled in the BIOS (AMD-V, VT-X) and in VritualBox's configuration. Some low-end Intel CPUs will not support this. Also make sure you're running a 64-bit guest if your host is 64-bit.

Ah! I didn't know about that. Thanks, that could be very helpful since I'd rather not bother with dual-booting if I don't have to. Virtualbox will work for the main goal of developing/testing new code as long as I can make it see the CPU's AVX2 capability.
