OpenCL for FPGAs

Has anyone tried compiling and running any of the GIMPS OpenCL projects (mfakto, cllucas) on Altera FPGAs?

What do you think the potential performance is, comparing to top of the line gaming GPUs?

Give me one of those and I'll try

But there are few sentences in the review to think about:

• compile time goes into hours => custom code around that required
• OpenCL ready FPGAs have "thousands of dollars" price tag
• they shine in efficiency (performance per watt), with typical power draw in the 20-watts-range. So they do the job of a 40-watt GPU with just 20 watts? Or maybe that of a 75-watt GPU? Combined with the previous bullet I fail to see the advantage (for now).
