On the other hand, this forum has demonstrated laudable tolerance and more than one thorn has been reformed. If speaking ill of the dead, it's nice not to salt the ground because they may only be mostly dead - and spring back - maybe not a row of soldiers from sown dragons teeth but a venerable soul or two, here and there. Tribology mentarianists strive for the best results but every cake is a recipe and various achievements in baking.

Was just answering the OP question.

EDIT: And yes, the tolerance level is admirably high but there is a certain point at which enough is enough. I think in a self declared "friendly" environment when one user bullies another away from the entire project then that one has gone a bit too far. On my first couple of posts here as an unregistered user I was harassed a great deal by another one of your thorns and tempted to never ever return to mersenneforum.org. Then the "friendly" part of the rosebush showed itself and even took my side. Had they made their appearance three hours later I would have never seen their comments. I would never have come back. I would never have discovered the GPU to 72 project (I am ranked 71 in the last year with only three months participation).

I'm glad I waited until after you got a name to begin harassing you TheMawn. I still sometimes feel a little bad about calling you Jasong II: Electric Boogaloo. Not bad enough to apologize though.

It would have been awesome if I had called him II: Electric Boogaloo, after all his break dancing skillz were at least as good as Jasong's, but nowhere near as good as Zetaflux's.

Lol, and you are...? Perhaps you were the one wondering if I was Jasong posting under a different username?

There are real problems and I did not intend to be dismissive. The one aspect of baking a cake that I left out: ingredients. By no means did I mean to imply that Daviddy shouldn't have been banned. I, myself put him on ignore quite some time ago. He is the only entry on my ignore list.

The trouble with Ignore is that responses without seeing the provocations are just too tantalizing.

The only times I've ever used an Ignore list, sometimes called a censor list, on any interactive site is when I've been spammed (by a human, that is, rather than a spam bot - Email spam is something else), meaning deluged by impersonal generic rubbish so that it's hard to see the real things. Then I've merely placed the spammer on the list for a short time until the person lost interest, removing them from the list when it was safe to do so again.

On this site I've never used the ignore list at all, never having suffered from anyone deluging me (that is of course a tribute to the supermods and admin who very effectively shut the spam bots out of the site!). That's not to say I've never ignored people here: I have done sometimes. But I find such ignoring easy to do by sight rather than risk shutting interesting items out by having the site itself censor them from me.

There's a greasemonkey script floating around that will delete followup posts that quote someone on your ignore list; it may or may not work with current versions of Firefox.

I think people who call other people stupid should be banned.
