Welcome everybody, and good luck in the new game.
I think the only question now is "d4 or e4?", I don't believe that anybody wants some fancy openings. We may play e4 and give them a chance to play sicilian and revenge :D |

Between e4 and d4 I would prefer e4. The only other move I would consider would be c4 since most of the other transpose into less favorable lines of other openings.

Either e4 or d4 (or c4) is fine with me.

Ok, I like e4 too, so then we be gentlemen and let them play sicilian? hehe...

Fischer said 1 e4 was "Best by test"! Also, we can show how better to handle the White side of the Sicilian than was done in game 1! |

hehe, good point, the trouble is that I never played 1.c4 as white and I have no idea how to handle it.

With c4 it's either win or loss the draw chances are much lower than either d4 which has the highest of the 3 and e4 in between. Since one of us has not played c4 then I would go with e4.

There are not so many books dealing with 1.c4 either. In the first game I had a lot of luck with Mr. Palliser's book, it helped me for the first 15 moves or so (over a third of the game!). I am a good analyst (well, the job... I do this for a living), but far away to be an opening expert... So, we go with e4 now, let's try to speed up a little. Lazy holiday times...

Sorry for not chiming in earlier... yes e4 is fine with me. |
