Focus on the outcome, not the procedures. Say what you want, and why. Give a little history in case it is another front desk drone reading instead of the initial contact. Probably not much more is needed than that.

Explanations and threats don't really go anywhere except the overworked and underpaid first line drone who doesn't really care about much except doing the minimal possible to keep his/her job. Asking them the give a lengthy explanation will just put you in the "hard problem" pile. And they will just lie to you about what happened anyway so you don't really gain anything.
Patience and sweet talk seem to have paid off (see above.) Thanks for your moderate advice.

I've got my own RMA complaint now, not GPU-related though. My Corsair H100 watercooler died, and I'm trying to get it refunded (part of their warranty policy), and it's been approved. The catch is that I replaced the stock fans with some 3rd-party fans (better airflow) and only have one of the Corsair fans with me (I'm on a 2-year "road trip"), the other I still have but in storage that I won't have access to until next January. Now Corsair won't let me RMA it without the second fan. Worst case I'll just RMA it next year (it's < 2 years into a 5-year warranty, so it'll still be covered). But still, it's a pain.

The good news.... Hell yeah... !!

The bad news... this computer has only one PCI 3.0 slot.

The good news... I have two more computers which can hold it.

Default Got it!

Replacement 570 came in, and it is the SOC model. It runs out of the box at 845 MHz core, 950 VRAM. Of course, the whole machine is running hotter, but not terribly so. It did prompt me to clean some filters, though.

The big news, for me, is that the 570 has run the CuLu self-test 3 times successfully at stock (factory OC) settings. I'm sticking with mfaktc for the moment. I need to brush up on CuLu procedures. Took me a while to dig out the self-test switch. I'd forgotten -r, and for some reason the silly program wouldn't accept -st.

Only one slot, as in, no place to plug it in? PCIe 3.0 doesn't really matter for our purposes, does it?

Sorry, I just meant one PCI-E(for the gpu) slot was on my motherboard, and it was in use.
