Part childhood nickname and part family joke from when I watched television cartoons with my kids when they were little.
My excuse for watching cartoons with them on Saturday mornings was that I had never really grown up and was still only 9 1/2 years old.

Fusion_power came about as a result of my desire to post on the old wbs.net board. Millions of handles had been claimed. I tried about 30 before finally thinking "I bet Fusion_power is not in use". Besides, I've long had the dream that fusion energy would be harnessed in my lifetime.

There is one method of energy release that is much more efficient than fusion. Anybody care to guess what it is? rettamitna (backward)

I used to use variations of my first name as nicks, but they were often already taken, so I ended up with a zillion different nicks I could never remember.

Then a girlfriend of mine complained that my nicks weren't very cool, so I settled on 'mephisto' as a short form of Mephistopheles, 'the devil' in Goethe's Faust ( http://44.1911encyclopedia.org/M/ME/MEPHISTOPHELES.htm ).

It should be cool enough for most purposes, and is rarely (if ever) already taken.

I used to have a chess board called a "Mephisto Polgar"... It played a mean game of chess and I never was able to beat it... IIRC it had a 6502 CPU... I think the "Polgar" name came from the Polgar sisters...
