I genuinely relish the occasions when someone can correct me. I can assure you it rarely happens.

Meantime where is the additional firepower needed to TF 333 expos/day to 74 bits coming from?
When will the LL assignment front get tidied up and procede at a similar rate?

However Chalsall came by the details of my personal arrangements, his publicizing it here is outrageous. and, as you point out, irrelevant as far as my ability to address the question of GIMPS strategy is concerned. The only reason I can think of (and it is no excuse) is that he is a bad loser with a huge chip on his shoulder.

IMO he is not sufficiently clued up to justify his sellf-appointed Tsar of GPUs status and worse, makes little effort to remedy this state of affairs.

A fair request! I do not suggest that we can reach 333/day to 74. I dispute the assumption that it is based on - that we need to do it right and we need to do it right now. With 32 days of lead time, if we get above 85% of the need then we lose (at most) 1 day of our 32 day surplus every week and have about 6 months to study the effects and change course. I don't think anyone disputes we can reach 85% - I believe the most pessimistic quote was in the 93+% range.

The case I make is such:
  • none of us are omnicient nor infallible,
  • There is disagreement among us with regard to our capacity to TF to 73 or 74 at this time,
  • therfore the matter can be in dispute.
We have a indeterminate amount of time > 4 months to study the effects of the change and reach an agreement on if it can be continued (and for how long), before we start having problems.

While I can see making a case for needing more lead time, that is a preference, not a need. We need 1 day of lead time + the flux (~80% of LL assignments) that will be abandoned. Preferences are not worth fighting over.

I will not argue for or against Chris' level of clue because, again, I disagree with the underlying assumption that it matters what any of us think about the matter until one of us becomes perturbed enough to undergo the work of putting up a new gpu site. It is well and easily within my means to do such a thing but Chris has not even remotely pissed me off enough that I would bother. If he's worked you up to the extent that you're willing to undergo the work to put up a competing site, I encourage you to do so. Until then though, we are talking about his site. We are not justified in countermanding his decisions in his site - only to stop using it.
His authority to do wtf he feels with his site, up to and including running it into the ground, is his.

I will judge his decisions a failure when I am moved enough to do better.

You stated your personal arrangements publicly here on this forum.

Perhaps you don't remember doing so....

I was not able to respond to this because I do not know what you mean. Are you refering to the gpu72 site or the primenet site?

Neither of my posts were questions.
As a reliable test of this, try terminating them with a question mark?

David... Over the last year you've done a grand total of 637.049 GHz days of LLing.

While every cycle is valued, over the same period the project you are so quick to disparage has saved almost five times that amount every single day (and, also, saved the associated DC -- aggregate of ~10 times).

What, exactly, is your agenda in your constant complaining that we (including George) aren't doing things "correctly"?

I'm more than happy to listen to reasoned arguments. But mother-in-law like hysteria doesn't go over well.

630 GHz? I could do that in around a week in cpu power!

But seriously, this "argument" reminds me of...

Someone1: "No, that's not right!"
Someone2: "No, that's not right!
Someone1: "Why?"
Someone2: "Because I said so!"

You have a short and/or highly selective memory

I started a thread in the Lounge entitled "GIMPS demographics".
I was thinking about "Why isn't GIMPS participation increasing?" but couched the OP sufficiently generally as to invite the first responder to choose from a variety of constructive directions.

The first responder was you, and the rest is history.
I don't know whether you've ever had a "finest hour", but that was not one of them.

And you've milked it for everything it's worth, even though I apologized.

And, as usual, you didn't answer the question presented.
