So he is right that you should not make assumptions on other people's motivations, and when they contradict you about their own motivations, don't continue to say that your assumption on other people's motivations is true.
He took my generalization personally when there was no reason to do so, apart from claiming to be an exception.

So what?

3. Some might be, but that is not the main reason for the bulk of those doing the work. You must prove your positive assertion. BTW, if 'they' are so obsessed with countdowns, please explain why there has been no change in the 'All exponents below xxxxx have been tested and double-checked' milestone in almost 4 months (the same for the first time LL minimum).

Although I haven't even tried it, there is such a thing as the "ignore" button. I am capable of ignoring threads and posts without destroying information.

I do concede that some folk might appear to be at war with each other to the uninitiated. See for example the "David and Halsall fight politely" thread.

I look forward to hearing a constructive contribution from your Highness.

Yeah, I was typing from my phone so it was too hard to elaborate. My criticism is Mr. Woltman's project, GIMPS, is represented by this forum and a good percentage of that material is unprofessional and diminishes the project and therefore makes the boss look bad. When it perpetuates and the boss does not correct the situation it makes him an accessory after the fact. GIMPS, the home of science and insults... Welcome, to the jungle. (The irony of me posting this is not lost on my, but the that's the point)

As a veteran of 500 posts and 8 months membership of this forum, I hope you have gathered that pomposity plays no part here.
In particular, I think Mr (or should that be Dr) Woltmann would not be offended if you referred to him as George.
Since his program has found 14 Mersenne primes, I would be surprized if he was especially worried that his reputation would become tarnished by contributing to this "jungle", populated as it is by many professionals.

You are fortunate to have witnessed the excitement generated by the discovery of a world record prime, although it is of little value to the advancement of number theory.

We while away the expected 4 years till the next discovery in a wide variety of ways, some of which can be very instructive.

Thankyou for taking my post in the spirit intended

David

David.

Will you admit that you have no GPUs to bring to bear?

And that you rely on social services to pay for your little room within which you live?

Edit: Oh... Wait... You've already done this.

Really, Challsall, even if both of those things are true they bear no relevance at all to the argument. That he may or may not have a gpu does not impair his ability to think logically about the problem, and the matter of who pays his rent bears even less attention. You should probably apologize.

The grievous errors in his logic and demeanor are obviously alcohol based.
