Raman: you are sorely trying the patience of the supermods.

That should be enough warning.

Ok, since you asked for it, you are banned for one week.

One of several ways in which you annoy everyone, and rather severely I might add, is your pernicious habit of posting text in unreadably small font and/or coloured white. Please stop doing so.

I am starting to look upon these posts as some bizarre form of performance art. The convolution of syntax seems intentional to the point of parody.

Paul

It is a stupid reason to ban someone just because he asked for it. And he asked for it only because of large number of impolite posts. Raman was beating all records of readability causing jealousy.

1. Banning someone because they ask for it is a perfectly legitimate thing to do. Perhaps they are addicted to posting (rubbish) on the forum, and cannot control themselves, and hence seek an outside intervention. Perhaps they feel that an enforced time-out would help them better cultivate their ideas. Taking a break can be a good thing, every now and then.

2. While the large number of impolite posts might in fact (and quite fairly) be considered a bannable offense, it is important to note that Raman (1) expressly requested banning and (2) drove home his request when he went on to post yet another incoherent, rambling message in an unreadable size and color of font, despite Paul's warning and request to cease and desist such behavior.

3. "Raman was beating all records of readability causing jealousy." I am not sure what you mean by this, but it would seem to imply that Raman's behavior was an attempt to "game" the forum by seeing how annoying he could become before the mods would take action. Been tried by many others on here - phony post count raising attempts, gibberish text, floods of nonsense, etc. - and it doesn't endear one to, nor does it bode well for their future ability to contribute to, our community. So please think about what you are encouraging, and remember that you too could end up in Raman's shoes if you choose to be disruptive or inconsiderate to other users.

This forum has existed continuously for almost eleven years without being overrun by puerile behavior. I can't speak for Xyzzy, but I'd like to see it stay that way, even if it means laying on the banhammer every now and again to nip such behavior in the bud.

Cf. "cmd". It's called turning the forum into one's personal sandbox, and must be dealt with in the swiftest manner possible, to preserve the integrity and usefulness of the forum.

Forum owners describe what is legitimate to ban, there is no doubt about it. I cannot estimate the value of Raman's posts. I noticed only that his posts are intensely read by others.

How do you figure? The forum doesn't (couldn't) provide any data showing how widely a post is read. If you're going by the "Number of views" statistics as a proxy, try to imagine why that is extremely misleading. [HINT:- The fastest way to mark an individual thread as "read" is to visit it]
