I didn't have to be especially eagle-eyed to field this one: several familiar numbers go hand in hand with this measure of GIMPS progress, and I find the cross-checks invaluable.

Each 1M advance in the LL wave (~60M) involves ~20,000 LLtests.
So the wave is advancing at about 10% per year.
1.14 = 1.46 and this is the average gap between primes.
"Expected New Primes" is decreasing at the rate of 1 every 4 years.
The probability of one LL test yielding a prime is 1/(4*365*300) = 1/438,000 which is typical of what Prime95 tells us for the range in which LLs are being completed.

Sustaining this 10% advance per year needs a 4/3 increase in computing per year. This a modest request of "Moore's Law", so Curtis Cooper was wrong to expect increasing time gaps between primes in the foreseeable future.

P-1, winning! Aren't you glad you're doing them? Saved a couple people a month. That other number finished to 79 today with no factors.

I think we've found an acceptable solution.
As a geek and engineer I just wonder why not use 10^2 10^3 ... and so on, works in every language and for a very long time.

@ Uncwilly- 33231xxxx has about 8.5 hours to go to 79. I'll try to work other such runs in every few days. If it is of any value to you, I'll PM the entire number.

It's not a trivial undertaking for me. 78-79 takes roughly 12 hours on an OC'd GTX 570. The work saved if I find a factor is gratifying, though.

It took me a month and a half to take a 332M from 79-80. Never again.

As long as it gets reported to PrimeNet, I am fine. I trust all y'all. I should have 49 GHz-days of P-1 finished since the deal came into effect it about 3.5 hours from now (14 total assignments). PrimeNet will be notified in about 7-10 hours from now.
My remote borg should turn in one more by that time too.
