can't connect to primenet

Downloaded version 22.10, registered an account, and recieved my assignment, however, I cannot connect to the server anymore and I consistently get Error 2250. I'm behind a firewall but I know its not the source because I disabled it for a trial and it worked before. The PrimeNet FAQ is a little outdated. Any ideas?

Any help is appreciated.

make a file in the Prime95 directory called primenet.ini add the following:

ProxyHost=http://proxyservername:80
ProxyPass=
ProxyMask=1

Restart Prime95 and give it a try. :-)

Assuming you have been trying to connect a couple of hours ago, I think it´s again some server problem. I´ve just had the same error today between 19:00 and 20:30 UTC when trying to send new completion dates to the server. Try later...

I'm still getting a problem of Prime95 stalling when it can't establish a connection with Primenet server. It happened again last night at 17.48 and it was only when I checked that all was running OK this morning that I found that it was still "Contacting Primenet server". I am running v. 22.10 on Win2K box.

Just to point out that bayanne is not alone with the problem of Prime95 stalling when "Contacting Primenet server"; I have experienced the same behavior on different boxes running Win2K and v. 22.8 and 22.10.

I have not investigated further (time limited right now), but I did send the two boxes on 'vacation' and disabled automatic communication. I'll see what happens when I go to send results after the 'vacation'...

I suspect its a Windows problem. When the server was down recently I tried Help/About Primenet Server repeatedly. One time in a 100 it would hang. I call the connect() sockets function and it never returns.

I've no good ideas for a workaround.

During the server outage the night before last, 3 of my boxen hung exactly as described by bayanne and sdbardwick - says "Contacting PrimeNet Server", then absolutely nothing happens for hours. I ended up having to kill the Prime95 process and restart to make them recover.

It sounds like you don't have a good idea why this happens. Can you at least put a timeout loop around the connect() function so that it doesn't freeze forever?

If it matters, the behavior happened on 3 different systems, including one non-Windows (a Linux LTSP headless client install). The other two were Windows Me and Windows 98. All are running the latest release of Prime95 (Windows) and mprime (Linux).

I have also had this happen in the last few days, running on Windows 2000 Server and Windows XP Home platforms.

The Akamai DNS servers had a "small" problem....

I didn't think GIMPS and all its related websites used Akamai, and what affected them was very specific and also not as serious as some had reported.
