There is a large choice of bases in which you will only need to use two distinct digits: (AFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF)b
(with 'A'b and 'F'b properly defined once) Hmm, I wonder if we can find a base in which it would be a (FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFD)b... (reaches for the pencil) Last fiddled with by Batalov on 2013-02-13 at 06:16 |

In honor of Valentine's Day:
109. Curtis Cooper once created a Turing-complete cellular automaton using two 8-oz. bags of conversation hearts. He used it to implement the Lucas-Lehmer test and found the 88th through 90th Mersenne primes two days later. And no, he's not ready to reveal it to the world yet. Sorry if this is considered blasphemous by some...

111. Curtis Cooper runs LL's on his Analytical Engine.
112. Curtis Cooper doesn't always TF-LMH, but when he does, he does it on a Speak & Spell. |

113. Curtis Cooper once found a Mersenne prime during a stress test.
114. Curtis Cooper once decided to take a break from trial factoring (he doesn't really need to do TF to begin with) and try his hand at Bitcoin mining. He ended up with 22 million BTC after a lunch break. An update to #65: Adam P. Goucher invented the Ξ function in an attempt to beat the size of Curtis Cooper's primes. It didn't even come close. Nevertheless, Dr. Cooper congratulated Mr. Goucher on his "perseverance." |

Curtis Cooper can prove the infinitude of the Mersenne Primes,
and has memorized all the digits in the largest one, just to be there if and when we all catch up. |

116. In fine print on the GIMPS website, it notes that Curtis Cooper will automatically get 100% of the EFF prize should he decide to reveal a qualifying prime.
117. Curtis Cooper measures his throughput in Titan-millennia. 118. Curtis Cooper can trisect an angle using only a compass and straight edge. 119. Curtis Cooper doesn't use an alarm clock. He configures Prime95 such that it returns a prime every day in the morning. Last fiddled with by ixfd64 on 2013-02-21 at 21:23 |

Considering Curtis Cooper's staggering contribution to GIMPS, he must also have a staggering electric bill... Unless:
121. Curtis Cooper is a major stake holder in the West Central Electric Cooperative (Preliminary research indicated that is electric company in Warrensburg, MO). 122. ...has a co-generation facility on site and uses waste heat for absorption chillers needed to cool the massive computer banks. 123. ...has employed the awesomeness of Thorium fission power. 124. ...his electric meter is broken. 125. When the University+'s physical plant goons start asking questions about abnormal electric and HVAC use, Curtis Cooper breaks out his super awesome Jedi Mind Tricks: Curtis: 'You don't need to see my power usage statistics.' Goons: 'We don't need to see your power usage statics.' Regardless, congratulations on the discovery of 3 Mersenne Primes with whichever of these 5 scenarios you might using .

126. Curtis Cooper proves that with superior preparation and organization you make your own luck. What he does not know is that luck obeys Bose-Einstein statistics on such a macro quantum scale that his nearest neighbor, Murphy, has been having a miserable time.
(Curtis Cooper 127 is available, you know you want it; Curtis Cooper 8191 is going to be a long wait -- or maybe not so long.) Last fiddled with by only_human on 2013-02-26 at 04:38 Reason: suprapreparation and superpreparation are nice too. |
