The dangers of omitted/misplaced whitespace ... one of the local news channels (KRON-4) runs the now-obligatory headline "crawl" at bottom of the screen, and one of tonight's headlines is

IRAQ: ANAL QAIDA AFFILIATE HAS CLAIMED RESPONSIBILITY FOR A SERIES OF WEEKEND ATTACKS

Human edges out robot car on race track

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-20165345

Turns out the guy wasn't actually on foot.

Great story, by the way, even though the title sucks.

Murder case complicated by death, court told
http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/murder-cas...108-29071.html
Quote:
The case of Nikolas Argiropoulos, 24, who was found dead in Ballast Point Park, Birchgrove, on March 22, has been complicated by the stabbing death of James Polkinghorne in May, Newtown Local Court heard on Thursday.

Miguel Silva, 26, of Casula, was accused of assisting Mr Polkinghorne avoid police over his involvement in the death of Mr Argiropoulos.

Mr Silva's sister, Jessica Silva, 22, is accused of murdering Mr Polkinghorne, her former boyfriend, during a struggle at her parents' home on Mother's Day. She is on remand.

Miguel Silva is charged with being an accessory after the fact to Mr Argiropoulos's murder.

The police prosecutor, Sergeant Rodney Hackett, opposed bail, saying it was a serious allegation and Mr Silva allegedly "assisted the deceased in avoiding prosecution".

But Mr Hackett said Mr Polkinghorne's death meant the exact details of the shooting of Mr Argiropoulos were not known.

Apple rejects NAKED HIPPIE ebook, despite apple coverup
This headline only makes sense if one understands that the the second "apple" refers to fruit imagery acting in loco fig-leafus.

Default £120m defence spending announced

Turns out to be flood-defence spending; that being a sum that buys not quite one high-end fighter plane.

Not so much misleading as ambiguous in the 'are they making a fat-guy joke?' sense:

Bulgaria: Police encounter no problems with people protesting against monopoles and high prices: PM

I got no beef with monopoles, them being strictly hypothetical and all - but my rights have been infringed on numerous occasions by law-disregarding gravitons.

Default So, Barbados is about to have elections...

So, Barbados is about to have elections.

The current ruling party took it to the wire. If they left it another week they would have been against the constitution.

What do I find in my mail today? An "on service" "Election Circular" from the DLP candidate.

She's advising me where I am to vote, and how I should vote.

"Your Polling District Is:"...

"Your Polling Stating is"...

"How to vote": "DePEIZA Verla"

Welcome to Democracy....
