I think it's a great idea as I just enjoy helping GIMPS as much as possible (though the occasional side project is fun too). This will allow the system to be a bit more flexible. I have often wondered if it would be possible to implement a live-feed system where the work is flexed on demand depending on what was best. This answers my question.
![]() Just remember that it won't be quite as responsive as the change we all made yesterday, depending on how much work each user has stored up. |

I was just thinking... with these changes maybe we need on "hidden" field on the WMS form for MISFIT MISFIT-TF-FETCHER requests:
Since the fetcher and the distribution are based on GHzDays of work now, can the WMS form take a field for how many GHzDays the requester wants instead of how many? 100 exponents from 71-72 is ½ as much as 72-73. Someone could end up with way too much work. Though it would only happen once and then MISFIT wouldn't request again for quite some time. Just a thought... |

Currently we turn work in once a week. We only have a GTX 660 and a GT 430 so it is not a lot of work. We are only factoring from 71 to 72 right now, to maximize found factors.
Since we are dealing with only two instances is it worth the trouble to switch to an automated handler? If we still had the four GTX 570s running three instances per card it would be an obvious decision. Is keeping out 600-800 exponents at a time harming anything? What we have works. However, we are lazy and fearful of making a big mess.

Luckily this change will be low-risk. MISFIT and G72 are mature/stable enough that a change to the WMS page and a modification to how MISFIT requests exponents via WMS won't make too much mess.

Just for the record, Send ctrl+c does not work on Windows 8.

I didn't say so. I just said Scott's "Send Ctrl+C" program doesn't work on Win8. If ctrl+c didn't work directly anymore I would really flip it. EDIT: Get the you-know-who cue ready!
