Hi all,
As an 'amateur', I'm studying Mersenne numbers since ages. I've found on the web and in books many information about them and about the theory required to understand them, like the LLT. But there is no place where ALL theory and features of Mersenne numbers are made available. In the Mersenne Forum, many information have been given; but it is very difficult to find them years after and to be sure they have been proven. I would suggest to work together on a Mersenne Web-site (pages in the GIMPS site ?) where all information about Mersenne numbers are made available. If we ALL work on: First) listing all properties of Mersenne numbers, and Then)providing proofs of these properties, it could be done quite quickly, with a small amount of effort to each of us. Some kind of 'moderator' could collect information, build the main page linking to the properties, and ask/propose the volonteers to provide help. A common format could be chosen, having in mind the idea to be able to print a 'Mersenne book' summarizing all we know. Other people would be able to review the documents and propose better proofs of a proof easier to understand. The final goal of this work is that once all the theory about Mersenne numbers is easily available, people will easily see if they have found something that looks new and may help to speed up the LLT. What's your opinion ? Tony |
