Talking LL to be completed in mere P-90 years...

The other day one of my old computers crashed and I had to reboot it and restart Prime95.

Some time later, I discovered that the assignments for this PC had somehow been changed from TF-LMH to LL (!). As a result, I got the following lines in my communication thread sub-window (see attached).

I've since deleted the relevant line in worktodo.txt and readjusted the assignment setting. I also tried to cut-and-paste the LL to another PC's worktodo.txt, but it seems to get deleted from there automatically every time that PC communicates with PrimeNet. Is there any way to "officially" reassign an LL from one PC to another, or should I just unassign the LL?

I could also do a manual LL test, but I'm curious to know if there is a way to move an assignment to a different computer.

You can move assignment lines between worktodo.txt files on different machines no problem; take the check point files along with the assignments, if you do not want to start from the beginning.

Edit: shut down Prime95 (Test-Exit), while you are messing with its files.

I have on several ocassions moved assignments between PCs subject to:
- you still own the assignment - ie did not unassign it either from the client or server ... Check for your name in the exponent status query.
- you copy the entire worktodo line including the AID.
- you copy over the intermediate result files P* / Q* if the work has already started and you don't want to start over.

The LL never started (there were still some TFs to finish first), so the checkpoint file shouldn't come into play.

But ahh -- I didn't shut down Prime95 on the PC where I wanted to reassign the LL. I'll do that, add the full LL line to its worktodo.txt (I have it in a separate .TXT file), and then relaunch Prime95.

Thanks, guys.

Well, technically, between Jan 2013 and Aug 2033 there are only 20 years (and half)... so no problem, you can do it...
Edit: grrr chalsall faster, as usual
Edit2: you don't need to shut down p95, just "stop" from the menu (or rightclick on the green icon in the taskbar's notification area and "stop" - all workers will stop, the icon become red) then after you edit the worktodo, use "continue" (or rightclick on the red icon on the notification bar and chose "continue" - icon is green again).

I did not know that. Thanks for mentioning.

I realized too late that I made a typo in the thread title. Those 3's in 2033 were sticking in my head when I wrote it. Maybe the Forum gods can help with that.

ROFL - the thread title was supposed to change from 30 to 20 years... not to add yet another 3 by changing it to 33.

I guess the Forum gods are somewhat like the genie Mulder found rolled up inside a carpet in that episode of the "X-Files."
