Who is "them" and what is a "group"?
You just have to write down the exponents here. And we confirm or infirm their primality together with you. Nobody will take your "glory" if the "formula" is right. We are not interested in the formula, but only in one of the exponents you found with your formula. Write that exponent down here. (and if my hardware is not too less for it, like you have a 10 digit exponent, then I will give it a CuLu run). Last fiddled with by LaurV on 2013-01-21 at 04:32 |

Consider reading more information and discovering which software you can use to find out if your suspicion is correct BEFORE you claim a headline like "NEW MERSENNE PRIME" next time. It might also be wise to actually test the number for primality before claiming it's prime, too.
Prime95 can test prime exponents up to a rather large size; if your "discovery" is a very very large number, you'll just have to wait a long time for the software to complete its test before you can demonstrate your insight to the community. You should read the documentation to learn how to tell it to test a specific exponent instead of requesting work from the GIMPS server. |

I totally agree with you that the OP should do his homework before claiming such a title (which attracted me like a magnet, only to be disappointed later, some supermod should change the title).
But related to P95, assuming the OP really has a way to identify an exponent which gave a prime mersenne (which everybody doubt, including myself), then it may be that he is not interested in using P95 (and sharing the money, according with the licence)

So you are using some formula, algorithm, or function to generate the 48th and 49th Mersenne primes? A formula that only generates Mersenne Primes would be something that would interest us all.

Then you can proceed with explaining your theory because you will have a time point of your proven invention. If needed, you will then provide a key to the secret message. This method has been used since 1500s (or even earlier?). If worse comes to worse, print you number and subimt it to the patent office. |

No, no, no - such use of loud all-caps has proven itself as a highly reliable "move to MiscMaths" indicator.

Has anyone googled this guy? All he does is set up accounts at different places and toot his own horn with sensational comments. Even without all caps in the first post, it would be obvious that he is a crank.
