A human could not support the power requirements of a traditional CPU (or even a GPU), for more than a few minutes -- even if most of their innards were replaced with batteries.
The human brain is unique in its pattern recognition and problem solving ability. |

good thing I've always claimed to be a Zorkian then.
Last fiddled with by science_man_88 on 2013-01-05 at 20:35 Reason: zorkian a alien from planet zork, not the computer game things. |

Please consider this idea "Open Source". And it's really easy to build a faraday cage. Take some chicken wire, and wrap it around. Then ground it. Done. |

A computer, including its power supply, of the computational power of a traditional system of 1982 can now be fitted into a swallowable pill. A modern machine drawing 1W or less has the computational ability exceeding that of a large-scale mini of 30 years ago which sucked several kilowatts and weighed a significant fraction of a tonne. I was using such machines back in the day --- VAX-11/780s for instance. The well-known Pi and similar machines exceed the VAX's capabilities many fold.

Given a finite amount of energy (let's say 1KW), how many cycles can they execute before they die? Last fiddled with by chalsall on 2013-01-05 at 22:26 Reason: Defined energy limit. |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mA9Dz_ZXKL0 this computer has 22 watt consumption apparently, though not at top speed, at this amount if it was at top speed it could get (1000 watt/kilowatt)/22 watt) = about 45 seconds and at 1.66 Ghz it could get about 75 Ghz seconds done. edit: but it also only has 1 Gb ram to work with apparently Last fiddled with by science_man_88 on 2013-01-05 at 22:39 |

Medical robots (i.e. a computer, mechanical assembly and battery the size of a horse pill, used quite often for gastric surgery and reportedly driving the development of high-capacity miniature batteries) are a fascinating subject; I have to admit I don't want to contemplate the possibilities for IO though. Seems like a lot of effort to cheat at chess.
