I used to do this, and blame my loss of being slim and sober
since age ~27 on this.

These days (and I am here to tell the tale) I can easily do
8 500ml cans of CSB (9%) in 24 hours on special occasions
(~every 3 days).

I don't see how 41% could be achieved by "brewing".

David

PS Cue Paul for a chemistry lesson!

Aside from the "titanic" potency, how was the taste?

(Try to describe it in naval-battle terms, e.g. "My first sip of this mutant-strength beer was a shock, like a 2-ton torpedo slamming into my forward munitions magazine. I immediately began taking on water and listing to starboard...")

41% alchohol -- that's 80 proof, might as well be whiskey! Around 10-12% will pickle most yeast.

And yeah, I've brewed at home...never succeeded at pilsner, tend to like the darker stuff anyway.

I assume that they still have a lifeboat there in case of such emergencies.
"Government"/Economy permitting of course.

Now, every network reprints the story about whisky cure for blindness - while this is simply common knowledge! The antidote for methanol poisoning is and always was ethanol (or the other thing)!

This was recently reiterated in a Dr.House episode.

It is also the treatment for Ethylene glycol (anti-freeze) poisoning in people and pets.

Here are two vaguely related thoughts:

1 - We use kitty-friendly coolant in our motorcycles:

http://www.engineice.com/

Quote:
What is Engine Ice Hi-Performance Coolant™, what makes it different?

Engine Ice Hi-Performance Coolant™ utilizes a base fluid called Propylene Glycol. This base fluid has been proven to be relatively harmless to plants, animals and the environment, while being an excellent base fluid for an engine coolant. We take this non-toxic base, along with various inhibitors and dilute it with the most pure water possible, Deionized Water. How hazardous is regular antifreeze?

A scant two ounces of any ethylene glycol-type antifreeze can kill a small animal (dog), one teaspoon can be lethal to a cat, and two tablespoons can be hazardous to children resulting in painful internal/intestinal problems possibly leading to coma and even death. Ethylene glycol is also harmful to plant life.
2 - This thread's title reminds us of this:

Rod Kimble: [pronouncing the 'wh'] The safe word is "WHiskey."
Kevin Powell: Sorry, Rod, What was that?
Rod Kimble: [pronouncing the 'h'] "WHiskey"
Kevin Powell: [pronouncing it with a silent 'h'] Don't you mean "Whiskey?"
Rod Kimble: [pronouncing the 'h'] WHat?
Kevin Powell: You're saying it weird.
Rod Kimble: [pronouncing every W as WH] Saying WHat WHEird?
Kevin Powell: All of it.
Rod Kimble: [pronouncing the 'h']
[scoffs]
Rod Kimble: WHere do you get off?
Kevin Powell: I just don't get why your saying it that way?
Rod Kimble: [pronouncing every W as WH] WHY I'm saying WHat *WHAT* WHay?
Kevin Powell: Forget it.
Rod Kimble: [pronouncing every W as WH] I WHill! I WHill forget it!
