A reader with a strong leaning towards either Euclidean Geometry or Geography might misread the word as "intersects". Another meaning of the word "plane" then comes comically into play. I guess that's the point, even though there's no error in the headline.

Sometimes thinking inside the box at a schoolboy level is sufficient. I thought they might be having bird-strike issues.

I am feeling very slow now ... 'november' should have tipped me off, but in the US context this year I think 'election' rather than 'giant turkey dinner'.

I can't afford JW Blue. I can afford Laphroaig. I am rather surprised that Talisker is a JW brand. It is very good: one of the best in my limited experience. For a real eye-opener go with Laphroaig Original Cask Strength. My favorites are from Islay.

It has been a while, though I think I've tried both. There is a nearby establishment, "The Duke of Perth" which bills itself as a Scottish pub. Besides a menu which features fish and chips, meatloaf, burgers, etc., they have a very extensive single malt list, and some good ales and lagers on tap. I remember Oban favorably, though perhaps not quite as heavy on the peat as I like. I'm not as sure about Lagavullin. I'll have to try a glass the next time we're there.

As described here, I scored a case of Ardbeg 10-yr for ~$45 US/bottle in late 2008 when the GBP was near its financial-crisis low. It has now replaced Lagavullin as my brother-in-law's favorite form of liquid peat smoke - I'd be interested to hear your review of it versus (or better, along with - no need to be adversarial, we can all get along, and more drunk to boot) the above. I still have 4-5 bottles left ... been rationing it very carefully, since I suspect my next case is going to set me back a tad more.

I wish that I could report. We were at the pub on Friday. However, Lagavullin turned out to be (not exactly sure now) $16-18 a glass, and I shied away. $9-12 is more my speed. In fact, knowing that we had Laphroaig and a bit of Talisker back home, we did not order any spirits, just black foamy draught (Belhaven Scottish Stout, Belhaven Wee Heavy).

There is indeed no need for an adversarial stance. I am happy to discuss the merits. I will put Oban on my next shopping list, one way or another, and will look at the store (as opposed to pub) price of Lagavullin. I am pretty sure now that I have not tasted it, given the per glass tab. Even Talisker (~$60/bottle-Skye) is less than that. Nevertheless, I am intrigued. I will certainly update if there is cause/tasting!
