Move 3

Our move 3 may be quite committal I guess. So we want to know just what we're heading for.

3.Nf3 can transpose back to main lines of the open Sicilian, intending to play d4 shortly, in case we've changed our mind about going for a closed Sicilian and/or want to throw them off balance again.:smile:

Otherwise two good moves, both clearly part of the closed line, are 3.g3 and 3.f4 . The first commits our king's bishop to the fianchetto position on g2 (but that's normal for the line). The second is even more committal, playing the aggressive, centre-claiming but also significantly weakening move of the f pawn (our king, if castling to the K-side, will be a bit draughty). But again, this is normal for the line.

Other candidate moves, anyone? Preferences?

I think g3 could be quite interesting. I am interested in playing with a fianchetto because I haven't done it much.

I definitely favor 3. f4 over 3. Nf3. It opens up the position quite a bit more, and lets us put our knight behind the pawn. I don't want to go back to the main closed lines.

I'm not opposed to 3. g3, but like 3. f4 more.
