question about manual checkin of work

When I run new sessions to completion, I get a new line appended to results.txt. So can I simply check in the existing results.txt file or do I need to remove older rows?

You don't need to eliminate the old rows. PrimeNet is smart enough not to re-award credit for the old assignments.

Primenet might be smart enough, but it still has to spend CPU cycles and network bandwidth. Try to reduce unwanted lines when you're submitting.
