juvenile errors.. ha .. no i'm pretty adept at building PC's by now or at least fixing them :D

I updated the bios on my last board which didn't help but i'll try again with this one and as for testing the Rimms separately, not possible as the blanking Rimm wasn't returned from my last RMA..grrr but i did test some of the other Rimms on their own before they lost my blanking Rimm without much success. The same type of mem has been used every time, but the retailer assurers me they are fine and fully compatible(but then what do they know)

Pardon me and my English... I was speaking about the MoBo, not about you... First rev. of P4T533 showed some incompatibility with some kind of rimms...

I've had a break through at long last. I tried underclocking the cpu to 1.8 and it's been running Prime95 for several hours now without a single problem.. wooohoooo.

clocking to 1.8 was very easy as its one of the main options given to me in the bios (now version 1006). so that's got me thinking its a cpu problem, no???
Seems a bit drastic to underclock that much just for stability, so could any one run through a few settings with me to get the most out of it?

Unfortunately, that helps very little in locating the culprit. It could still be memory, CPU, motherboard, power supply, or something else!

On the plus side, you can make a functional computer out of these parts!

What we need to do is make changes that affect only one component. This can be done by swapping individual parts or making BIOS changes that will point us to the culprit. Since, I don't know your motherboard I don't know which of these are possible...

Try running at stock speed, but raise the CPU voltage to 1.6 or 1.7 volts. If that works, your CPU is no good.

Try underclocking just the memory. Look for a bios setting that might read 300MHz or PC600. I don't know if you are running a 133MHz bus (PC1200) memory by default. If so, maybe there is a way to run it as PC800 memory instead.

If all else fails, perhaps you can underclock to 2.2GHz and be stable. That would be better than underclocking all the way to 1.8GHz.

well i just can't thank you people enough :) :D

got it stable at 2.379Mhz.. i simply changed the external frequency bus from 133MHz to 132MHz.
It's now running Prime95, 3DMark and Memtest-86 without a problem.

Tried raising the CPU voltage to 1.6 & then 1.7 volts @ stock speeds, still get errors as for the mem settings i haven't got a clue on that front.

I might try to find the offending part at some point but for now I'm gunna get some use out of my PC, that's now 6 months old :?

I've seen you're running an old version of prime95 (v22.12). Last version is faster, so you may make up for "lost time" underclocking your Cpu just with an update... ;)

I had the exact same problem with my 2.26G and a Gigabyte GA-8IHXP. My problem was the slots I had the RIMMs in. The manual said that slots 1 and 2 were the closest to the CPU. But I could only pass the torture test if I under clocked the FSB to 132. I RMA'd everything and still nothing. I finally moved the RIMMS to slots 3 and 4 with the C-RIMMs in slots 1 and 2 and SHAZAM!!!! Worked like a charm. I was even able to OC to ~143Mhz FSB.

Pity i haven't got more than 2 slots on this board then sjhanson.

Prime ran fine for 24 hours but things seem to be going from bad to worse now. Every time i boot up my PC it screams "no CPU installed" or gives me a hardware monitoring error, which in the bios reveals my CPU running at 127 degrees C

(that can't be good) so i changed that to ignore as i know it aint true. but it still just boots me into the bios setup every time. Tried clearing the cmos with no success

this PC is certainly stress testing me

Diggs did I buy your computer? I have a P4T533 with 2x 256 232pin 4200 Rimms running winXP. I've tried two different PSU, replaced the Rimms three times, tried two different CPUs and bought a bran new P4T533. Prime95 will not run for a minute. In fact Unreal Tournament and Unreal Tournament 2003 both crash and/or bluescreen the system after a few minutes of play. BIOS has been updated, ive tried changing bus speed and cpu speed. (I would rather not run the cpu at a slower speed to get a program to run.) I am still searching for a solution....

I think there were some threads on some hardware sites talking about how the P4T533 has problems in its early revisions. Those without a fan on the northbridge are considered early revisions.
