Pity Russia didn't make it after playing some of the most exhilarating football we've seen/heard so far.
Time for a thread amalgamation Serge? Title "Euro2012" David |

I was not living in Greece, but I can guess how it was in Greece. People were living in Greece quite well, nobody could imagine that it could be otherwise. As in every nation there were some of them, who could predict incoming events. But they were in a tiny minority ridiculed by press, radio and tv. It became more and more evident that this tiny minority was right. Then there was Olympics in Athens. If somebody started to think that tiny minority was right, nobody cared about it, since all Greeks were preoccupied with sport events. Additionally, Greeks had unprecedented successes in soccer. Never before and never after a short period. People were in amok, sport was the only thing they were discussing. There was not a happy ending and there could not be a happy ending. Everything was according to a scheme, which was used many times, always with a success. A greed was an engine for everything. This is my story and I believe it is a true story. It is a central cross section of a regular 4-dimensional polytope with 24 cells. There is a free program written by me about cross sections of regular polytopes. See "www.literka.addr.com/rchelp/crosssections.apk". This program is for cellular phones Android compatible. Touch one of icons to see appropriate cross sections. Nothing special, but it can provide some fun. Last fiddled with by literka on 2012-06-17 at 04:54 |

The successor of Paul the Octopus is some huge pig as far as I heard.
I wonder how did the know that Paul was Paul? /looked up wikipedia/ ...ugh. I was a better person without that knowledge. |

For me it is Dennis Bergkamp v Argentina.
The Dutch needed a goal to go through. Two minutes to go in the match. Team mate punts an optimistic ball from wide on the halfway line. Dennis runs at full speed to collect it. Catches it with his right foot. Tosses it to his left and blasts it into the net. YouTube welcome! David Found one. The pass was from way behind the halfway line! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FhOalcQW9fI Last fiddled with by davieddy on 2012-06-17 at 13:40 |

I remember that goal very well. Amazingly he has done another goal very similar, except not quite as long pass:
2:17-2:30: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drScL8q956o Being Danish I also remember this goal very well in the same 1998 World Cup involving Michael Laudrup: 2:08-2:38: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQCuplnQPPU That pass by Michael Laudrup in slow motion at 2:25-2:30 is just amazing, and the goal by Ebbe Sand is also very good. That game sent Denmark to the quarter finals the furthest "we" ever got in the World Cup, where "we" lost narrowly 2-3 to Brazil. A match where "we" actually had the lead but Rivaldo beat "us" with 2 goals: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xb08U25FI9I Also a sad match since it was the last match for both Michael and Brian Laudrup on the Danish national team :( Last fiddled with by ATH on 2012-06-17 at 14:13 |
