Why wait for Maxwell?
GTX 780 aka GK110 Kepler was promised to be good in compute.
Though it wont be released till Q4 2012 - Q2 2013

I'll never be at ease with the modifying naming convention of nVidia...

IIRC, GTX 700 series WAS initially the codename for Maxwell, being GTX 600 sereies Kepler.

I'm going to wait for the new GTX 780 specifications. If they look bad I'll revert to a GTX 580.

Now, a question: is K20 going to be Maxwell or SuperKepler?

The last post speaking of K20, from LaurV, said:

just for new readers, Karl's post referred to this post which was in front of it, and later moved to the cooling section. My reply is in that thread too. There I said nVidia priced K10 to $2000 and announced K20 for the end of the year (maybe Xmass??) but did not say the price. I expect a $2500 and it seems I am not far away from what other say if you google for "tesla k10 k20"
Where may I read about the K20 being sold already?

As for naming convention nVidia screwe4d up things going from GF to GT, from 100 to 104 to 110, jumping from '100 series (the new 680 will be a 780) and so on...

From the posts above, I see that the GTX 780 will be a SuperKepler; from the links I read that k10 and k20 will have different architectures.

Instead of stating the obvious, would you mind explaining a bit more?

Luigi

On another note they plan on using K20 to make a supercomputer to beat K computer:

well, they don't yet... or maybe they are selling, but not yet shipping. this is common for things called "tesla", see the roadster, where they took the money 3 years ago, but not yet shipping the "boards"...
