Every version should be doing that, from at least as early as 26.6. (It's only 27+ that could actually do anything about it.)

Well, that being the case, I'll see if I can use 27.6 again soon. My other theory is that Windows can be picky about where it lets users put their files for running programs and I may have, at first, not had the program in the correctly allowable place. I get new laptops/computers so seldom that I always forget about things like that in between times.

Very likely. A safe bet is somewhere in your user folder or My Documents; certainly not a place like Program Files (Windows is a jealous bitch).

I remember vaguely reading something about that causing problems. I will try 27.6 again in a few days to see if something else I might have done wrong caused it to react with the errors I mentioned and then I'll report back.

@Dubslow, BrianOC, George:
Hip hip hooray three times for all of you for the speed you uncovered and solved this issue, and I want to say sorry for my post #21 where I replied without understanding the real problem.

Question: is the "build 3" also on the "slash gimps" page, or that is a manual updating process done by xyzzy only, and we have to wait for him to wake up? (I dld v27.6 from there and it seems to be build 2).

The forum's mirror is not automated so if something changes a PM to us would be greatly appreciated.

We try to read all of the messages in the forum but…

So which one should I use? 27.4 or 27.6?

27.6, definitely. Bug has been fixed. Speaking of which...

Actually, I got some "errors" on my laptop on a 25M exponent; however, that was a night where our room got particularly hot, so I didn't see the actual error message and just assumed it got too hot overnight, and restarted the test. By happenstance I just looked at the result file, and saw the actual error messages with roundoffs of E21 reported. (Incidentally, every round off had the exact same value, within the ten digit precision printed.)

I guess that at least partially explains why we didn't see it more...

Edit: It's small enough to fit here. Looks like Small FFTs, not Blend. (Either that or he cut the larger lengths out.) @Brian: Are you absolutely sure that this is build 3? If you downloaded it from this forum's mirror within a few hours of its release, it's probably build 2. (In Linux, when I run -v, it says 27.6.8? George?) Note that the errors look much more like typical hardware errors, but you say 27.4 still doesn't fail...? Are you running multithreaded torture tests?
