These days, with high-speed networking, I just make an Ubuntu boot/Install CD...and let it do the work. Then the re-boot is the test.
But I have to admit I have a half-finished, Windows/Ubuntu multiple boot system right now, and another I'm about to create. |

I have had trouble with Ubuntu 11.10 on more than one machine. You might try 10.04 LTS and see if it runs better. I was extremely happy with the improvements that came with 11.04 over 10.04, but something happened with the change to 11.10. 10.04 was great for my math workings, mostly Aliqueit based. The only real trouble I had was that it wouldn't boot without a physical monitor attached. 11.04 fixed the monitor issue.

I tried once again to install Ubuntu and it failed again. I tried installing on second hard drive without success and then on the main drive. Nothing happens after reboot.
Do I need to underclock my CPU to install Ubuntu? Edit: Once, while updating Win 7 to SP1, energy went down and since then I didn't manage to successfully install SP1. Maybe this is the problem. Last fiddled with by pinhodecarlos on 2012-05-09 at 18:58 |

GRUB installs properly but when I choose Ubuntu a black screen appears with a bunch of lines with errors in hardware and other things that I don't understand, etc...and it stalls.

The output would be mildly helpful for me, and probably very helpful for the folks over at ubuntuforums.org. Picture, perhaps?

Today I managed to install VirtualBox with Ubuntu 64-bit as OS. I can now help on factor Bernoulli(200) with BOINC...hehehe

Another question is about installing BOINC. I want to run NFS@Home, the installation is like on Windows, double click and that's it? I installed Primo and managed to run a test with success. Anyway, last night I shutdown the machine so later in the day I'll go to the location of the machine to try to put BOINC on. Last fiddled with by pinhodecarlos on 2012-05-17 at 10:19 |
