Day by day, I like MicroS**t less and less. It has reached a point where I am considering switching to Linux. However, I would like a version that would run Windows programs as efficiently or nearly as efficiently as Windows. Which version should I look into? Any help would be appreciated.

What you want is wine or xwine. Suse is pretty good and that have come out with what they call wine rack if all your wanting is to play windows games I recommend Xwine not to be confused with winex

I tried Open Office for Windows, and it actually turned out to be better than the Micros**t version. I've been telling all my friends about it.

My former colleague looked at this issue. He recommended Win4Lin as being much better than Wine. As I understand it, Win4Lin emulates Windows, and can therefore run any Windows app. (Wine must emulate each individual app separately.) So, he tried it, and found Win4Lin / Red Hat Linux a very effective and robust combination.
