A new milestone has just been reached; as of today, the #3-20 projects combined have a normalized score that's higher than SOB's.

Neat. But SOB's next prime will roughly double their score, yes? Or is that project dormant these days?

Thanks for the observation.

Our current score is 49.9889 and we are getting closer and closer to 50.0.
I did a little estimate of what kind of prime(s) we would need to reach this goal:

It turns out that just one prime for n=2291723 would be sufficient.
Or equivalently two primes for n=1828630, three primes for n=1602489, ..., or just ten primes for n=1083017.

So, with the 7th and 8th (and 10th) drives and perhaps a little help from the 2nd megabit drive we could reach score 50.0 quite soon.

BTW.: By concentrating on just the 11th drive we would need an equivalent of 33 primes (of about n=735k).

Our current score is now at 49.9976(0877).

For a spot-on landing at score 50.0000 we would need a prime in the interval n=1382646-1401606 (assuming k<10000). Unfortunately my tests for the 2nd megabit drive are already beyond this range.

But nevertheless there is still a chance for a 2 megabit + 1 sub-megabit combo...

Primegrid has finally surpassed SOB today.

Code:
Rank Project Primes Score Normalized score
 1 GIMPS 13 55.8432 1353458
 2 Primegrid 1960 51.4985 17562
 3 SOB 11 51.3943 15824
 4 RPS 1136 50.0662 4193
RPS could take third place in a few years if SOB doesn't find any primes between now and then...

Didn't no where to post this but did RPS ever reached a normalized score of 51 points? RPS has now 50.9996.

Hi Carlos,

Here is the thread for milestones!

As you can see we reached 50 more than 2 years ago, in October 2011.
Just a few more primes and we'll reach 51!

Kosmaj,

In fact my question was stupid because the score is normalized. This happens when you are sleepy and try to post things at 11 pm after a day of 39 ºC. In fact this temperature has been constant for the last 2 weeks. In the news they are saying that this Summer in Rio de Janeiro is the worst of the last 30 years. Usually the Rio 40 (40 ºC) happens in December for 10 days but it has been in this situation of an average of 35 ºC since last two weeks of December until now.

So after we reach 51 we have a race to 52. Good news. I'll do everything to reach that mark for the next 4 years (during my PhD, during my access to computers lab).
Also, there's a fight going on between me and my wife, she doesn't let me buy a new computer...suggestions? Kill her? lol....The reason is that our PhD scholarship is too low for leaving in the city of Rio de Janeiro but because I don't have exclusivity with the university I can get a part-time job (at weekends) to earn a little extra money. I am going to do that to buy a new machine.

Carlos
