Thanks Colt! Another Gulftown-beating performance I see (> 1.0)
Did you get your 920 chip later on, or when they were first released? I never was able to get one over 3.8 GHz, mine were always hotter than Satan's armpits in the summertime. |

I have HTT enabled but run Prime 95 in 4 thread due to it being more efficient that way. Running P95 8 thread increases per iteration time ~5ms and burns about 15W more power according to Gigabyte DES with expected temperature increase. I run HTT because I notice the difference running my apps with P95 in the background vs. HTT being totally off. Right now, with 41C internal case temp its running 65C (average across 4 cores). I dont think that is actual intake temp of the fans on the Megahalems since I have a HAF932 with the side fan pumping air in right below them, but it tracks really well. I know if it shows 46C itll be running about 71C average. I dont think I would be about to air cool this in anything but a case similar to the HAF. Occasionally my A/C will freeze up and my place turns into a sweat box when Im not around to address the situation. With 48C internal temp, the poor thing is running 75C and the heat is just DUMPING out the top. You can run your hand over the top and its like a portable heater. Hmm. I like it. It would help to reduce the 'thermal runaway'. You can see a slight bit of that with case going up 7C but CPU up 10C. The hotter it runs, the more power the CPU pulls due to increased resistance...leading to more heat. The hotter you run this 'refrigerator' the more cooling power it has. Temp would still go up under these conditions but would be more normalized maybe.

Just add a few cooling loops and a pair of reservoirs, and you'll be fine.
