Sieving: Reserve a range

Program - We use sr5sieve written by geoff for our sieving. To download it, go to http://sites.google.com/site/geoffre...grams/sr5sieve. If you are running windows or linux (x86), you can grab a pre-built binary (available for 586, 686). The executable name is sr5sieve. If you are running another OS, grab the source code and do a make.

Three different compressions, one file.

- If for any reason, you are unable to extract the dat file, send Joe O a PM with your email address and he will e-mail you an appropriate file. The dat file name is sr5data.txt.

Running instructions:

sr5sieve doesn't take command line arguments, instead it just loads the sieve file (sr5data.txt) and reads the sieve range from sr5work.txt, expecting both to be in the current directory.

sr5data.txt is the project sieve file that the user downloads.

sr5work.txt is a list of ranges <pmin>,<pmax> one per line. pmin,pmax are a pair of plain integers in billions. We're using 1 billion = 10^9

So if you want to sieve the range 500000 billion to 501000 billion (i.e. 500000e9 to 501000e9), you add a single line in sr5work.txt:

The program will print (approximately every 2 minutes) the % completed and ETA for the current range. You can queue up multiple ranges in sr5work.txt. To add a new range, you _don't_ have to stop the program!

Reserving a range:

Just make a post in the thread with the range that you want to reserve. Ranges are reserved in multiples of 1000G (1T). Please reserve the lowest available range! If you can specify the approximate ETC, that'd be great. At any rate, drop by here and give an update on your range every week with an updated ETC.
Please only reserve a range that you are very sure you will complete within a month.

Submitting the factors:

The factors found are saved in a file called factors<nnn>.txt where nnn is the range start value.

At the completion of the range, submit the factors via the sieve import page at:
http://www.sr5.psp-project.de/sieveimport.php and also make a post in this thread.

I must have something wrong in my system... I keep getting the image of the bunny with a pancake on its head. lol

But if I go to http://mersenneforum.org/base5 then I can see the list of files and download them.

Oh well... as long as it works...

The links use lower case sr5 while the actual files are upper case SR5 -- you can see that from mersenneforum.org/base5/ . Directly clicking on the dat file links from first post causes error.

PS:- After correcting the top post, you can nuke this post also.
