PRPnet 1st drive-R/S base 2 even-k/even-n/odd-n

Okay, I have the new 50T sieve files loaded into port 1300 for n>1.4M, including Jean's k=84363 and k=60357 that we're adding to the drive. k=60357 is loaded starting at n=1265007 (the next after Jean's stopping point at 1264731), and the server will catch it up to the others before continuing on from the current testing level.

Jean, I've prepared a "care package", as Gary likes to put it, consisting of PRPnet clients pre-setup for your two computers to run on the CRUS PRPnet server (port 1300). You can download them from:

Download each package to its respective computer, and extract the contents of the zip file to a new folder in some handy place (probably within your home or Documents folder). If you open the file prpclient.ini with a text editor, you'll see that I have it configured to connect to the server at noprimeleftbehind.net port 1300 (the CRUS server running the base 2 mini-drive), with a few other servers as backup in case CRUS's goes offline (from NPLB, TPS, and PrimeGrid). Each package is set with your username and email address, and a unique computer name to identify that particular client to the server. I have also included binaries for the latest LLR (3.8.6) and PFGW (3.4.6), which are used by PRPnet to do the actual work. To run the clients, double-click on prpclient.exe (on Windows) or open a terminal, cd to the client directory, and run ./prpclient (on Linux). The program will start, fetch some work from the CRUS server, process it, send back the results, and so on. To stop the client, press Ctrl-C; you can then run the client as before to have it pick up where it left off. If you find any primes via the server, it will send an email to the address configured in prpclient.ini, notifying you of the find.

Thank you very much, Max, I downloaded the two files immediately, and without any problem! I shall now try to launch the two PRP clients.

Now, the client is successfully started on my Linux system.
On the Windows 2000, I have this error message :

"pfgw.exe is not a valid Win32 application"

and, indeed, the client does not start...
I tried now to redo this download, and found each time a weird behavior during it (at the contrary to the Linux one...) so it may be a transmission problem...

He probably needs to send you a 32-bit version of PFGW.

BTW, for info. on our PRPnet mini-drive, see http://www.mersenneforum.org/showthread.php?t=12225. Also if you click on the link in the first post, i.e. http://noprimeleftbehind.net:1300/all.html, you will see the exact status of each k and each test that you are working on. I see that you are working on one pair now.

As a note of reference, the server will "catch up" k=60357 to all of the other k's that are at n=~1.397M before handing out any other k's.

Thanks for doing that Max. One note: You did not actually "add" k=84363 to the drive. It was always in there. Jean had "asked" if he could reserve it, which is when I informed him that it was already reserved by the mini-drive.

I get the same problem after dowloading pfgw32.exe fom SourceForge, and renaming it pfgw.exe, but if I don't rename it, the prpclient complains because it cannot find the pfgw executable, and then continues using cllr, so, for me and today, this problem is resolved!!

If all you are doing is base 2 tests, then the client will only use cllr, so you can comment out the pfgwexe= line in prpclient.ini.

Related to this, it appears that pfgw32.exe cannot run on Windows 2000 as the message "pfgw.exe is not a valid Win32 application" is a Windows message. Can you confirm that?

I suspect the latter is due to my using VS2010 to build PFGW. VS2008 had a lot of problems with the solution that couldn't be easily resolved, such as weird dependency issues. When I migrated to VS2010, I could fix those problems easily.

You are the only person I know who has tried to run the current PFGW on anything older than Windows XP.

I am not surprised! But I am avoiding Operating System reinstallations as far as possible...

Moreover, all my programming developments under Windows are done using VC 6!! My problem is Microsoft development tools are not-at-all free, they are even rather expensive, and beeing retired, I cannot get them at my job site!

Is there an upgrade option from 2000 to xp(no reinstallation necessary)?
