As things stand, I'd say that your 1st place in the individual rally stats is probably safe.@all: even without Lennart, we're still doing an amazing amount of work per day and have made enough progress that we'll be within striking distance of the end of the drive at n=1M by the time the rally ends on Wednesday! If any of you guys visiting for the rally would like to stick around another half-week or so, you can catch the end of the drive--our next priority is planned to be to get the 11th Drive (low top-5000 work, n=~600K) to 670K (where it will be out of the "danger zone" of falling below the top-5000 entry level for a few months due to all the PrimeGrid Sophie Germain Search primes at that level), so get those big juicy n>950K primes while you can!

The rally is now complete. Thanks for everyone's tremendous contribution!
To add more detail about what Max said in the last posting; if we continue with our current level of processing for ~2-1/2 to 3 days, we will complete the 5th drive! All assistance would be greatly apprecated.

The rally ended some 30+ hours ago now. Thank you for everyone who participated in our most successful rally of 2010. We processed a tremendous amount of work and found 19 primes (17 new) at n>900K; a huge accomplishment!
In the team race with Ian adding his pharm to the mix, ROLP took back the title owned by PST the last two rallies. Unlike many rallies, there were also several very interesting individual races. Lennart held off a late-charging Brian by a mere ~1000 pairs and I edged out Ian at the end. In the LLRnet vs. PRPnet contests, LLRnet won both that began on Sat. and Tues. I already posted the score for the Sat. contest. The Tues. contest was one-sided so there was no point in adding up the pairs processed. The most exciting news from NPLB's perspective is that it looks like we will virtually complete the 5th drive by Sunday (early Sat. on LLRnet port 9000)! In PM discussions with several people, they have explicility or implicity agreed to leave their cores on the 5th drive until it is done. Look for more information from Max in the near future about some more news regarding NPLB's future direction. Gary Last fiddled with by gd_barnes on 2010-12-11 at 09:47 |

Well, now that it's been a month or so since the last rally, how about scheduling another one something in January? PrimeGrid has rallies in December and February--well, the latter is conjecture since they haven't yet posted their 2011 rally schedule, but if it's similar to this year's then their first one will be in February. If we did one in January, we could hit right smack into the lull in between the two.
How does the week of January 16-22 sound for everybody? We could of course change the start/end days of the week as needed, but I'm thinking that general vicinity would be about optimal. |

I'm looking forward to the next rally. Any dates in January are OK with me as I don't think anything else is on the agenda.

I will likely be out of town from around Jan. 12th thru 19th (plus or minus a day on both ends). Any time before or after that would be better.

In that case, how about the week of the 23rd-29th? (Again, the start/end weekday could be shifted as desired into the previous or next week as long as it doesn't get too close to your trip.)

Gary/Max do we have a list of targets for 2011 yet? Like the 2010 targets you posted? Should we focus on something for the January Gauntlet?

That's a little far out. How about something like Jan. 3rd thru 10th?

Our current target is getting the 6th Drive to n=1M by the end of Q2 2011. (We may consider upping that to Q1 considering that we've been moving much faster than expected on it thusfar thanks to PCZ's help.) At any rate, that's the drive we'd be focusing on for the rally. The servers would be the same as before: port 3000 for LLRnet and 9000 for PRPnet (since now both of those are running the 6th Drive). |
