Even if I check "Remember me" on login in Firefox 3.5.7, it doesn't work. Anyone else has this problem with Firefox?

I don't generally use Firefox to connect to mersenneforum, but you might want to check your cookie settings. If they're set too restrictively, the "remember me" setting might be a moot point.

I got the same issue. If you type in the first letter of your name in the box, then you see that your full name will be prompted and if you choose that, your password automatically is entered. Maybe it is a security thing, not allowing automated entry into the forum.

First, check whether Firefox itself is blocking cookies from mersenneforum.org [Tools -> Options -> Privacy]. If not, go into your security software and see whether mersenneforum.org is on its appropriate cookie whitelist. Last fiddled with by cheesehead on 2010-01-09 at 06:22 |

Recently this issue has been mentioned in the "Forum down" thread. IE7 couldn't remember me from then until a few days ago. Then it just remembered me as usual.

It's not a firefox thing. It's a recent forum thing.

One thing that may affect it is how often you visit the forum. I've noticed that if, say, I go on a long vacation and come back to the forum after it, sometimes my cookie has expired. That may or may not be in play in ATH's case. |

Firefox used to be configured to forget cookies when the current session ended, or possibly even for a few hours afterwards. So you'd log in to the forum, maybe come back a little while later and login would still be automatic. Then you come back the next morning and the cookie would be gone so you have to log in again. This is completely separate from the browser remembering your login ID based on the web site you visit.
It works for me after adding mersenneforum.org to the cookie whitelist (click 'exceptions' in the cookie options) with a note to accept cookies. Note also that firefox keeps history for 20-30 days by default, so even after doing the above I've sometimes needed to log in again after a month. Last fiddled with by jasonp on 2010-01-09 at 15:17 |

But there is a ton of other problems with IE8 for me, so I want to use firefox. I will try reinstall firefox because everything people suggested with whitelist doesn't work. |
