Oh...wow, I didn't even know that was possible. I thought, from the way it looked, that the forum was all confined to the /forum directory and the stats were all over the rest of the website. (Or were you referring to the DB end of things?)

When the original idea was formed to move the current threads into the new forum and I was releasing version 2 of the stats website, I combined the stats site into the vBulletin site as a 'forum and stats package'.
As a result it was easier to back-up and theoretically it might also have been easier to move as a single tar file to the new GB server. However, it is not a great deal of work to separate it again. I have started developing the release tasks. I estimate the web-page outage to be about 20 seconds and the processing outage to be about 30 to 60 minutes. Implementation time overall about 4 -5 hours. - create point in time backups of web sites and databases for a back-out plan if required. - remove the vB forum links - Suspend processing - copy the stats site out of the forum to a new / old location - make the web server path changes re-point the FQDN - restart the web service (about 20 seconds web outage) - make the path changes in the db processing side - test & verify both test and prod sites - Resume processing. - modify and test the backup scripts etc... - Drop the vBulletin site to release the license. - create post-implementation backups of web sites and databases for the new roll-back point. I have some prior commitments in the next 2 days so I'm planning to do it this Sunday afternoon (AEST, UTC+10). This may impact your CRUS file links and download links. I'll do an impact assessment on that before I start. If I can't come up with a simple solution I'll hold-off and notify Gary so we can resolve it and reschedule. This task is completed.
The 'new' forum no longer exists. I was able to do everything in-situ so no apache bounce was required. Please check some of your download links and crus links. I am confident that they are untouched. Have a great day

BTW, what about the "Issues" and "CLOSED Issues" forums? Is the data in those on hand to be moved elsewhere? (Or do you not think it's worth worrying about?) |

It would be too late now :D
A complete migration of the issues was more effort than it was worth. I did restore some issues in the old issues register before decommissioning the forum. I will create new issues for the others when/if they come back in focus. Last fiddled with by AMDave on 2009-12-20 at 21:41 |
