Mini,
Thanks for posting. A couple of items: The Generalized Woodall Search is not new and Les GeneFermiers did not drop off the top 20 since last time. I made the corrections. Everyone should also check out this post that I just now edited for a total scores change since we first started this thread. We've now moved into 5th place there and are gaining rapidly on 4th place. :-) Gary Last fiddled with by gd_barnes on 2009-02-07 at 05:24 |

We've now topped a score of 2000 as our outstanding performance continues!
The most remarkable thing about this is that we've done it while also dedicating a large # of resources to finding smaller non-top-5000 primes as well as double-checking and sieving; all at the same time and WITHOUT a rally! What a great group we have! Thanks to all for your continued efforts to fill in all the holes in primes of all sizes! ![]() scores: Code:

I've held off quite a while seeing if it would continue and it has: Our outstanding performance continues!

brilliant news
i was a little concerned by RPS's new 7th and 8th drives but it seems we are still beating them so far we need to keep searching relatively low(n<700k) ranges to keep lots of primes and points coming on the table i think it is less efficient to put lots of resources into searching for really high primes(n>1M) currently the 8th drive helped massively Last fiddled with by henryzz on 2009-04-08 at 14:05 |

It's slightly more efficient for prime SCORE to test higher n-ranges because more factors are eliminated ahead of time and the primes won't drop off the top-5000 list anytime soon. It's always more efficient for # of primes to test lower n-ranges as long as those ranges aren't so low on the "top-5000 curve" that the primes are dropping off quickly, hence causing you to gain little over a period of months. NPLB of course leans towards the latter but there are people of many different tastes and tolerances so we want to keep the higher n-ranges for people who like fewer but larger primes. At the opposite end, several people don't really care about messing with reporting top-5000 primes so they orient towards sieving and testing for smaller primes. Bruce is our best 'dirty work' guy in that regard. Thanks Bruce! Sieving, finding smaller primes, and double-checking don't get the recognition that they deserve. If we really wanted variety, we'd sieve n=1M-2M and have n>1M available for people also but that's such a large effort that the project hasn't undertaken it just yet. Bruce and I had a brief PM discussion about it and after Karsten chimed in that he had started sieving k=2000-3000 for n=20K-1M, we thought it made sense to go that route. The sieving for n=1M-2M will likely be around the corner, sometime early to mid 2010. RPS's 7th/8th drives are miniscule compared to any of ours. You're talking 30-40 k's combined on the 2 drives vs. 300 k's on our 10th drive and 100 k's each on our 5th/6th/7th drives. With what appears to be the equivalent of about 32-40 modern quads currently running port 8000 at all times right now, we won't have any problem overtaking them. And that doesn't even include all of the effort that Ian, Brian, Chris, Karsten, etc. are doing on the individual-k effort and their own "side efforts" that have yielded some very nice primes lately. Just a few days ago, Brian had 3 n>700K primes on his side effort within about 2 days of each other. I estimate that we have about 200-250 cores running for us full time right now including cores dedicated to sieving. Thanks all to a great team! ![]() Gary |

This probably should have been done on May 1st to see how the Free-DC boost for the complete month of May helps us but now should be sufficient.

Well, here we are a month later after the Free-DC month-long rally on our project. The boost was outstanding and with no other projects finding huge primes, we easily topped all projects on score gain.
Our score was over 2600 for quite a while. Unfortunately we started dropping rapidly towards the end of the month after Free-DC cleared out and started a new project plus all of our main drives are now searching n>660K. With a large part of our resources now on sieving at the moment, June promises to be a very challenging month for us primes-wise until the sieving effort is done. We will be doing well if we can avoid losing more than 200 points in score this month. The good news is that the new drives from the huge sieving effort will be huge and we should get a large infusion of primes once we start them. scores: Code:
