Every windows 2000 or XP user should check out www.blackviper.com
this guy has gone through and documented all the services being run and shows what is safe to kill and what isn't. My speeds have dropped from .123 to about .099 or so. If your not gonna be using your computer for a while you should use the "gamer" settings |

i have prime setup to run as a services and make sure to log out at night so that no other apps are running
that doesnt really speed prime up as much as it keep it going at optimum along time ago i heard something about loading prime into a ram drive helps speed it up slightly i may try it since i have a gig of ram now. ill let you know if there are any improvemetns also i dont know if anyone mentioned running prime in safemode may help becuase it doesnt load anything else and also doesnt put much strain on the systems video or audio needs Last fiddled with by crash893 on 2003-12-31 at 01:19 |

Starting at this page, firingsquad shows the effect of additional DIMMs in a system. Up to (what I've seen so far) 60% slowdown for a system with 2GB versus a 1GB setup. On average the slowdown is less - something between 20-30%. That depends on the number of installed modules and AFAIR, registered modules don't suffer from this effect.
So if there is for example a dual channel setup and I'd need lots of RAM I would chose the biggest modules, which still don't have an exaggerated price level. |
