LOL--actually, there's somewhat of a story behind those names. I'll leave that to Gary to explain.
![]() Hmm, maybe we could call the new server "jeep" in keeping with the tradition. I was originally thinking we'd just call it "server" though it would be interesting to do something a bit more creative.

Sorry...I didn't have time to do the switch this afternoon. It'll be between 10:30 and 11:30 CST now. I got the new motherboard replaced on Spitford but haven't had time to get it up and running yet. That'll be taken care of also sometime after 11:30.

BTW, I just thought of an even better variation of my idea for what to name the new server in my last post: jeepford!

I'm running even later. After I write this post, the GB servers will go down, probably for ~30 mins. or so.
BTW, I got one of the heaviest duty most powerful UPS backups out there. Paid ~$250. If it doesn't run a single quad over an hour, I'm sending it back. lol I would hope for 4 hours so 2 hours for 2 of them. Last fiddled with by gd_barnes on 2009-11-17 at 07:41 |

![]() BTW, did you ever get the chance to do a run-down test of the UPS with one quad and the router gear attached as planned? It would be interesting to see just how long it will last under actual test circumstances. |

The mobo in spitford has been replaced and it is now running. You might see if you can connect to it remotely. I'll check all of my machines for remote connection before hitting the hay tonight. No I didn't do the UPS test. Good idea. Remind me around Thanksgiving and I'll do it over that weekend. Last fiddled with by gd_barnes on 2009-11-17 at 07:24 |

GB servers are all back online. Both crunchford and dumpford are connected to the battery backup. All machines are running full bore. :-)
...now to CRUS web pages updates before packing...long day here. :snooze Last fiddled with by gd_barnes on 2009-11-17 at 07:43 |

Cool. I just checked dumpford and everything looks OK.
![]() BTW, one quick question: have you by chance been moving the desktop icons around (namely, the ones for the servers' directories)? I'm guessing it's probably a bug that keeps moving them out of their carefully-arranged place in the bottom right corner of the screen, but I figured I'd check with you anyway just in case.

The LLRnet status pages and results copying-off is now back online. The status pages seem to be working properly, and we'll see whether the same goes for the copying-off when the daily rollover comes around.

Gary, I've now got dumpford set as the "gateway" machine. This will require a small change to your remote-desktop-launcher.pl file; see attachment for the updated version.
This now completes the changeover of everything "important" from crunchford to dumpford! Now crunchford is just an ordinary crunching quad again. Gary, when you get the chance, I'd highly recommend doing a clean install of Ubuntu 8.04 64-bit on crunchford like you did before on the rest of the AMDs. (Well, except hueford, which as I recall is still on 7.04. You'll want to upgrade that one too. ) That way you'll be able to do sieving at full 64-bit speed, and won't have the limitation of not being able to install anything on it due to the Ubuntu 7.04 package repository being long gone. Also, it's a humongous mess from the hackish tweaks I had to do to it to get around the 7.04 limitations, so it could reall yuse a clean sweep.
