Possible solution if you guys like to have such a list: Make it only for "recently" released sequences. That is: Whenever someone releases one, but a date on it. Then after 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months, or whatever, remove it from the list. That way, the list won't keep getting bigger. Another solution that I thought was a good idea and would be a good replacement for this thread: The recommended sequences thread. The idea would be that whenever someone releases a semi-interesting sequence or someone runs across a driverless sequence that he can't continue, then put it in the recommended sequences thread. I like the idea so much that I may do that at the CRUS prime search project at some point. That is a "recommended bases" thread and the reason why they are recommended. I also think there is no need for a released sequences list/thread. In this case users just have too many places to check if they can take a sequence? And what happens if the chosen sequence is not on the list? Is it reserved or just not interesting?
In my opinion, everyone can reserve any sequence which is - not reserved in the "reserved sequences thread" - not in a reange processed by someone see "Aliquot ranges and status" For unreserved sequences that are interesting to continue, we have the "Some recommended sequences" thread. If you are not sure, i recommend to do a search in this forum for the sequence number to see if it appears in a earlier post. |

What if we only included sequences that were 115 digits or more? These would be the sequences one could choose to work on where it is possible to break a record or at least get near the top 10 highest for escapes, down runs, terminations, etc. Furthermore, I think a better seperation than sequence range would be those that have drivers vs not. So I propose two tables, ideally including all seqs over 115 digits that noone is working on - one for seqs with drivers and one without drivers - the more lucrative ones. |

That sounds like a good idea. If we went to that, I would reserve and release my sequences in the reservations thread. Then it would be up to you guys whether you would include them in the released thread. In the mean time: Releasing 130396. |
