found the solution:
The Windows 2008 x32 Enterprise handle big memory blocks correctly, so no need to use x64 now: Code:
commencing relation filtering estimated available RAM is 3837.6 MB commencing duplicate removal, pass 1 found 1667855 hash collisions in 14079145 relations commencing duplicate removal, pass 2 found 1258655 duplicates and 12820490 unique relations memory use: 49.3 MB reading ideals above 720000 commencing singleton removal, initial pass memory use: 689.0 MB reading all ideals from disk memory use: 439.8 MB commencing in-memory singleton removal begin with 12820490 relations and 24250275 unique ideals reduce to 466 relations and 0 ideals in 5 passes max relations containing the same ideal: 0 filtering wants 1000000 more relations elapsed time 00:08:41 |

The precompiled 32-bit windows binary is 'large-address aware', meaning that if you run windows in a mode that gives you 3GB of virtual memory in every process, then you can do larger factoring jobs before a 32-bit system runs out of VM for msieve. The danger there is that if you have less than 3GB of memory and a big enough factoring job, msieve will run but will swap to disk.
I don't know how to turn on 3GB mode for versions of windows more recent than win2k. Last fiddled with by jasonp on 2009-10-18 at 19:37 |
