Default Firefox formatting

My Mac laptop is in the shop. I thought I'd make Ubuntu 9.04 my surfing machine for a week.

The Primenet status report (http://mersenne.org/primenet/) does not format properly in Firefox. Anyone with any suggestions on how either the HTML source should be changed or my Firefox setup should be changed?

Which browser displays it correctly (or at least the way you would like it to be displayed)?

Sometimes Opera has a problem too.
Where all the text is supposed to be on the right is blank, until where it should end, that is where it starts.

I'll give it a shot:

Code:
sudo apt-get install msttcorefonts
FTTOMH. HTH.

Yes, I found that this helped a lot of things display in a much more "normal" fashion. George, you may want to try installing the msttcorefonts package, which adds a lot of common Windows fonts to the system. Without it, you're missing a lot of staple fonts including Arial and the like, which means Firefox would have to come up with some other substitute for many web pages. I noticed that the standard substitute included in Ubuntu doesn't look much like Arial and seriously messes up sizing.

Nonetheless, I'd guess that this isn't the cause of your problem. It may be worth a try, though. I haven't used Firefox on Linux recently to access the PrimeNet status report, but I don't recall any problems off the top of my head from the last time I did so; either I did actually encounter the same problem you've got and just don't remember it, or there's something specifically with your setup that's causing it.

All the more reason to remove the "font" tag near the "pre" and let the browser use its available monospace font (rather than courier).
