[quote=Batalov;185342]Yes, for 8Gb 800MHz sounds about right.
(So actually having 8Gb is a disadvantage for running Prime95.)
Why is more RAM slower than less RAM? Btw. I'm using my computer also for other things than searching for primes ...

I'm not giving up yet. Tomorrow, I'll ask around and see if anyone can spare me a Core i7, at least for the next few weeks.

Some motherboards will only work with all memory sockets filled if the timings of the RAM are not to high (800 MHz instead of 1066 MHz for instance.) In other cases it is a cost trade off : more RAM of lower specifications or less RAM with high specs that is more expensive.

For LL tests the quicker the RAM the faster the test. They do not use a lot of RAM but use it extensively.

Default An unofficial double-check in 1/100 time

As ridiculed by Monty Python*, the Americans say: "let me tell you something..."

I do have 100 savefiles for 100 volunteers to very quickly double-check M101001001. (or "I just wanna say", I will have when I am done.)
All you need to do is take a single save file by ftp, run it for a million iterations with
InterimFiles=1000000
InterimResidues=1000000
in your prime.txt and you will be done in 3 days tops, send back the next savefile which will be validated by a third-party. Who is interested?!

Grim Reaper: Shut up, you American! You Americans, all you do is talk, and talk, and say "let me tell you something" and "I just wanna say." Well, you're dead now, so shut up!

You call it unofficial. Surely it's not a usual way to DC a number, but it is just as certain as the traditional method, is it not? Would this DC be accepted into GIMPS?

to be accepeted into GIMPS it would need to be added by Prime95 i think
also it would be a second first time check not a doublecheck

From my savefiles, the shift value will be fixed, which opens the door to the hardware and software (possible) problems. Plus, it is going to be the same Intel/AMD hardware, but this is not going to be a prime, heh?
So it doesn't strictly matter.

If George would be interested, then he could hold all the files and make their shifts random (trivial for him). I will send all the files only to him (or any other interested qualified 3rd party), so he could dispense the input start file to someone, and make sure that they don't know the answer, so when their answer comes back it will be genuine. Right?

Fyi: I am at iteration 80,000,000. So the end is near (on 4 cores), ~15 days.

72.98% as of now. There was an interruption today, so the test could lapse past midnight and into Sept. 3. I'm running out of time to find a faster computer...

I don't know of any time when a double-check was done like that before. When StarQwest tested M100,000,007, Yxine followed along on a slower computer and finished many months later, although they did check for matching intermediate residues.
