I have a Core 2 Duo running at 3 GHz. The system is loaded with background tanks running. Hardware drivers, anti-virus, and so on.
I don't know that creating a second hardware profile would help any. Too bad there are not "registry" profiles so I could turn a lot of this off. An old P4 in my bedroom is running circles around this one. All it has is a XP Pro, and that's all other than video and Ethernet drivers. Any suggestions? |

you might look into running safe mode. I used to reboot to safe mode before going to bed, that way the machine would gain speed all night and while I was working. The gain was more than enough to make up for the loss.

I thought about that. I also thought about dual-boot too. I have a 500 GB drive so space wouldn't be an issue. As to what the other OS would be, I am not sure. I have Windows 2000 Pro, but no video or network drivers for it. Other than that, I would not need anything else.

I tried Safe Mode. There was no difference in speed.

henryzz was suggesting Ubuntu Linux as "what the other OS would be" in a dual-boot system, I'm fairly sure.
