i think that phrase should be "if p is prime then 2^p-1 MAY BE prime.

the thought had crossed my mind. but in the next sentence says "2047 is odd...". that context-switch just confused the heck out of me.

You've got lots mixed up.
This part is correct. Yes, two, (besides the trivial factors of 1 and 2047) 23 and 89. Quote:
