How to change Pxxxx.001 file to Pxxxx file?

How can I change Pxxxx.001 file (or any other 00n file) to Pxxxx file? On my home machine I can do that without problem (just click right mouse, rename file, and delete 001). But on my work machine I can't do that. Machine recognize 00n file as 00n type file, and I can't change that. Is there any other way I can change that?

Unix: mv Pxxxx.001 Pxxxx
MS-DOS: ren Pxxxx.001 Pxxxx

In the Tools menu of Windows Explorer, go to Folder Options, choose the View tab, and clear "Hide extensions for known file types". Then you should be able to rename files freely.
