Bingo! That was the problem. I updated the IP address on the No-IP web site and now the server is "back online".
(Though, techinically it was online the whole time, but nobody "knew" where to reach it. )I'm not sure why it didn't automatically update, though. Possibly the No-IP clients got stopped somehow and never got restarted; I'll have to do some poking around today to see what's up. Last fiddled with by mdettweiler on 2009-07-23 at 17:08 |

Great. Can you restart all the servers? I'm in my after-trip busyness mode at the moment...laundry, unpacking, grocery shopping, keying in data, etc.
Why did No-IP not automatically update the IP address like it usually does when it changes? |

One note to everyone about my ports G4000 and G8000: I've been made aware that Karsten has a bunch of pairs to return to port G8000. When we give the word that those ports are back up, please hold off on starting any clients on port G8000 until Karsten has returned all of the pairs to it. Otherwise we'll end up duplicating quite a bit of work.
Karsten, please post here when you have been able to return your many completed pairs to port G8000. Thanks, Gary |

It appears that Max has not seen my note to restart the servers yet.
Max, I am still unable to remotely access my machine. What's up? If this keeps up, I'll restart G4000 and 8000 directly on the machine itself. Max had asked that I only do that remotely so that he could more easily see the servers running when he views them. |

Regarding being unable to remotely access any of your machines: that's probably because Windows still has your old IP cached as the corresponding IP to the domain nplb-gb1.no-ip.org. To refresh the cache: -Go to Start>Run. -Type "services.msc" without quotes and press Enter. -Vista will ask for administrator confirmation (I think you're doing this on a Vista laptop, right?); click OK (or it might be Continue, I'm not sure since I'm not in front of a Vista box right now). -You'll now see a list of all the system services on the machine. Find the one labeled "DNS Client" in the list. Right click it, and click Restart. After you've done all that, you should be able to connect. Note that some web browsers may keep their own cache of DNS lookups; if you have problems connecting to the web pages on nplb-gb1.no-ip.org even after refreshing the system's cache, try closing all browser windows and opening it up again. Meanwhile, now that the servers are up and running, I'll see if I can find out why No-IP wasn't updating automatically. Max

Thanks for getting them running Max. In the mean time, it's a no-go on being able to access Crunchford after restarting the DNS client. I'm still getting a connection timed out message. I also cannot access that no-IP link shown in the 1st post of this thread.
Later, I'll just try shutting my laptop down and turning it back on to see if that does it. Last fiddled with by gd_barnes on 2009-07-23 at 22:19 |

Whoa! That's weird and funny. I got a "Welcome to Crunchford" page with a "Sorry nothing here yet" comment below it and a picture of the funny "O RLY" ostrich that is Ian's avitar. I assume you put all of that there. Is that what I am supposed to be getting?
