Depends on your point of view. Do you (generic, I'm not specifically asking chalsall) think that its contribution to GIMPS, along with any other purpose it may be fulfilling, outweighs its contribution to carbon emissions and your electric bill?

With one exception that xilman is fond of pointing out. They make excellent space heaters. In the winter, operating an old machine for GIMPS is essentially free if your house needs warming. I know this is not a consideration in Barbados

but is in other colder places.

The waste heat is a noticeable contributor to heating my apartment about half the year, reducing my use of fossil-fuel for heating. My electricity for air conditioning (and for the system producing the waste heat) is 100% from renewable sources. Also, my doctor recommends using A/C rather than open windows: unfiltered outside air would trigger my allergies on the vast majority of days (I've actually tested that -- lots of flowering plants around here), which would make me miserable. I've had the allergy shots to reduce my sensitivity as much as current medicine can.
