As far as I know last time they checked it on a faster machine - if I would have a 16-core machine I would have checked it but there are certainly faster machines out there.

(a) I would, but maybe others would find it harder to do so. (b) By the time a 100M-digit prime is found, we'll probably have significantly faster hardware. (c) As noted earlier, verification of a reported prime would be done on big-tin 16-or-more-CPU systems, so would take only a fraction of the time someone's home/work PC took for the original discovery.
