Suggestion for the GIMPS site

Under "reasons to search for Mersenne primes" they do not list any practical ones. Now, pure research has value in itself, but huge primes also have intrinsic value.

A good example is the Mersenne Twister PRNG:

I had thought about building myself an encryption program based upon MP's. I was going to use it to help teach myself a new prog lang. Nothing to sophisticated, just a simple rotation or the like based upon the digits of an MP.
